Meet The Stratus Associates Team

We’re a multi-generational team built on experience, relationships, and a shared commitment to helping you plan what’s next.

Stuart A. Appel, CLU®, LUTCF®

Partner, Insurance Planning

I joined Rosenzweig Financial Services (RFS) in March 1981 and with the merger of RFS and J3 Wealth, am a Partner at Stratus Associates and specialize in the professional healthcare marketplace.

I primarily focus on the use of life, disability, long-term care insurance and annuities when planning for clients, helping them have financial peace of mind for life’s events. I entered the financial services industry to serve people and help ensure families have what they need in the eventuality of death, so businesses can stay together and prosper, and if a professional is disabled, they can continue to provide for themselves and their loved ones. My experience gives me the ability to craft a plan for my clients that will span their lifetime and help provide for generations to come.

I’m a member of FINSECA, which was formerly the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU), and stay on the cutting edge by regularly attending continuing education conferences.

I am the past president of my synagogue, and am also actively involved in various fundraising efforts in my community. I am happily married with three children, have several grandchildren, and live in Great Neck, New York. I enjoy music and am an avid New York sports fan.

I’m a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF), and a registered representative of HTK.

Josh Baer, CFP®, ChFC®

Co-Managing Partner, Investments

As Managing Partner for J3 Wealth Management, now merged with RFS creating Stratus Associates, I am primarily responsible for overseeing our client book and expanding our team and strategic partnerships. My specialization lies in investment management as well as financial, tax, and estate planning.

I’m proud to carry forward the legacy of J3 Wealth, combining the experience and strengths of both firms to provide clients with a broader, more comprehensive team and a forward-thinking approach to wealth management.

With over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, I have had the privilege of working at several reputable firms including Merrill Lynch, TD Ameritrade and UBS. Over the course of my career, I have earned several key designations and licenses, including the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation, the Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) designation, as well as the Series 7, 66, SIE, and Variable Life & Health Insurance licenses. Before embarking on my professional journey, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College.

My motivation stems from the positive impacts we have on the lives of our clients and future generations. The aspect of my job that I most enjoy is meeting new people and designing customized portfolios that fit their unique needs. I firmly believe that the greatest value I can provide for our clients is a personalized and proactive approach to financial planning.

Originally from Kendall Park, New Jersey, I now reside in Scotch Plains with my wonderful wife, Felicia, and our two children. In my free time, I enjoy cheering on the NY Giants and Knicks, alpine skiing, traveling and indulging in my passion for automobiles, history and architecture.

Michelle Boyce, RICP®

Partner, Retirement Planning

I have been in the Financial Services industry for over 20 years.

I specialize in working with clients who are preparing for retirement or are in their early years of retirement. I pride myself on getting a full understanding of their current financial picture and what they want their next phase of life to look like. I address potential issues/risks that could prevent that ideal retirement from happening and then create adequate solutions to ensure my clients’ prosperous future. My passion is to help educate consumers by taking these complex financial strategies and explaining them in an easy way to understand the concept.

I have worked in various capacities in the financial industry during my career, from being part of top producer teams to teaching new financial advisors through agency leadership and training.

I’m originally from central PA and am a graduate of Penn State University in Business. I now reside in Boynton Beach, FL with my husband Rob, our two daughters Olivia and London, and our pets. When I’m not working with clients or spending time with my family, I’m likely working out. That could entail racing to the top of the leaderboard on my Peloton or competing in local Spartan races, and now I recently started Hyrox training and competing.
